PVC window care: what to do and how often
PVC windows do not need complicated maintenance, but a few habits add years to their life. The whole routine takes about half an hour twice a year.

How to clean the profile and glass
- a soft cloth or sponge and warm water with a little neutral soap
- no abrasives, stiff brushes, acetone or solvents: they scratch and dull the surface
- wipe the glass with window cleaner or a vinegar solution
- dry the frame and the seals after washing
Spring and autumn: 4 actions
- Wipe the rubber seals with a soft cloth and treat them with silicone grease — they stay elastic longer.
- Lubricate the moving hardware parts with machine oil or a special window lubricant: one drop per point.
- Clear the drainage holes at the bottom of the frame so water does not stand.
- Check how the sashes close: if the seal feels weaker, ask a technician to adjust the hardware.
What not to do
- hang on an open sash or put heavy items on it
- leave a sash open in a draught: a strong gust can damage the hinges
- paint the seals or the hardware
- leave the film on the profile for more than a few days
The care calendar
| Season | What to do |
|---|---|
| Spring | Wash the profile and glass, treat the seals, lubricate the hardware |
| Summer | Check how the sashes close, clear the drainage |
| Autumn | Adjust the sash pressure before winter and lubricate the hinges once more |
| Winter | Use micro-ventilation, wipe condensation, do not cover the radiator |
If the hardware sticks
Do not force it. Check that the mechanism is free of debris, lubricate the moving parts and try again. If the handle is still stiff or the sash sags, call a technician: hardware is adjusted in a few minutes.
